Iterative decoding of turbo convolutional codes over the noisy two-user binary adder channel

چکیده
Introduction: The two-user binary adder channel (2-BAC) is one of the simplest models for a multiple access channel [1]. The 2-BAC is a memoryless channel which, at each time interval, accepts two binary inputs, one from each user. Unless stated otherwise, we will assume that the binary alphabet {0, 1} of each user is mapped as 0 → 1 and 1 → −1 to feed the 2-BAC and that in the absence of noise the 2-BAC output is given by the arithmetic sum of its two inputs, i.e., the output symbols belong to the alphabet {−2, 0, 2}. In the noisy case the 2-BAC output is described by a conditional probability distribution [1]. Our purpose in this letter is to investigate the performance of a coding scheme for the 2-BAC employing just a pair of distinct turbo convolutional codes, not necessarily constituting a uniquely decodable code pair.

The Bahl-Cocke-Jelinek-Raviv Algorithm Applied to the Two-User Binary Adder Channel
The Bahl-Cocke-Jelinek-Raviv (BCJR) algorithm is a well known maximum a posteriori probability decoding algorithm which has been proposed earlier for point to point communication applications, employing block codes or convolutional codes, and turbo codes. This paper describes an application of the BCJR algorithm for decoding the output of a multiple access channel called the noisy two-user bina...
متن کاملImage transmission using unequal error protected multi-fold turbo codes over a two-user power-line binary adder channel
Impulsive noise is one of the major challenges for reliable transmission over power lines. Interleavers provide higher protection against the impulsive noise by dispersing information across the channel and spreading the burst of errors over multiple codewords. Multi-fold turbo (MFT) coding is a technique that improves the communication reliability using multiple interleavers. In the MFT codes,...
متن کاملNonlinear Turbo Codes for the AWGN Channel with Higher-Order Modulations and the OR Multiple Access Channel
This paper addresses the problem of designing parallel concatenated nonlinear trellis codes (PC-NLTCs). These codes have advantages over binary linear turbo codes for higher-order modulations or in applications where a non-uniform distribution of ones and zeros in the output is optimal. Two applications are considered in this work. First, this paper shows that for higher-order modulations using...
متن کاملNear-optimum decoding of product codes: block turbo codes
This paper describes an iterative decoding algorithm for any product code built using linear block codes. It is based on soft-input/soft-output decoders for decoding the component codes so that near-optimum performance is obtained at each iteration. This soft-input/soft-output decoder is a Chase decoder which delivers soft outputs instead of binary decisions. The soft output of the decoder is a...
متن کاملIterative multiuser interference reduction: turbo CDMA
We view the asynchronous random code-division multiple-access (CDMA) channel as a time-varying convolutional code. We study the case where the users encode their data, and, therefore, the single user transmitters and the CDMA channel appear as the concatenation of two coding systems. At the receiver we employ serial Turbo decoding strategies. Unlike conventional Turbo codes where both the inner...
